We have kicked off our GTT programme with a hiss and a roar with our Year 5 students! Our gardens are looking fantastic, and the children are enjoying harvesting a range of fresh produce that has been school grown. A huge thank you to Pauline Hall who has ensured our gardens are kept healthy and watered. Over the past two weeks students have made Indian Chickpea Fritters, Cucumber and Tomato Salsa, Herbed Cheese Scones, and a Leafy Green Salad. Check out our photos! Danielle Underwood has been preparing exciting menus and planning the cooking experiences which the children are enjoying.
Our adult volunteers we have had so far have played a vital part in our success and we would like to say a special thank you to Tommy Tomimoto, Rosa Kang, Kelly Tam, Shawn-Elise Tierney, Fabiha Mehdi, Debbie Smith and Tony McMillian for offering their time and helping out in both the kitchen and the gardens. Without these helpers, this programme could not be possible!
Last week we had Barry Power and his colleague Joanne who are GTT Northern Regional Co-ordinators come and visit the programme in action and they were impressed with what we have achieved so early in the year!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the GTT sponsors who have provided us with the garden and kitchen equipment, which has contributed to the success of us getting this programme up and running so efficiently.

In addition, we were lucky to get a discounted rate of kitchen supplies from Briscoes Wairau, who supplied the entire kitchen list and Noel Leemings at Wairau who also provided us with a discounted quote for the fridge freezer. It’s great to see local businesses support local schools!
A huge thank you to Dragon Community Trust for providing the funds to allow us to purchase the fridge freezer for the hall kitchen which has arrived, and the garden shed which will be arriving soon!
